IAAF CONTINENTAL CUP CONTINUES PLAYING A SIGNIFICANT ROLE FOR THE GROWTH OF ATHLETICS

Sergey Bubka, IAAF Vice President and IOC Executive Board member, praised the positive impact of the IAAF Continental Cup which concluded on Sunday, September, 14th, at the Grand Stade de Marrakech, Morocco.

Bubka said, ‘I am sure that Continental Cup continues playing a significant role in the growth and promotion of athletics. I would like to thank the athletes who demonstrated perfect performances at the end of season. I also send my gratitude to the Organizing Committee who provided very high technical level of the competitions. I know that millions of athletics admirers enjoyed two emotional days at the stadium of Marrakesh watching TV or internet broadcasting of the highest standard.

Speaking on local interest, it is clear that we must identify better the motives of spectators attending international team athletics events like Continental Cup. We can’t ignore the fact that individuals who attend sport events are significantly influenced by the entertainment values and involvement opportunities. We must do our best to help organizing committees to bring local sport fans to the arenas. IAAF can and should help national federations and organizing committees with global researches and socio-demographic information about needs and trends of the audience. It should become of the priorities for IAAF’.
